Trip with small children

on foot to Vrchlabí and back by the Bubáček tourist train

If you want to enjoy a pleasant trip with your kids without a big climb back up, head out from Benecko on foot towards Kněžická chalupa and down to Vrchlabí. At Kněžická chalupa, we can warmly recommend absolutely anything.
The path leads through beautiful countryside with views into the valley and gradually brings you right into the town.
In Vrchlabí, you can visit the Krkonoše Museum, which is a great destination for children too — it offers a modern
and interactive exhibition about nature, the mountains, and life in the Krkonoše.

After visiting the museum, you can walk to the center of Vrchlabí to Hotel Gendorf, have something good to eat,
relax, and then comfortably return to Benecko on the Bubáček tourist train.
It runs from Vrchlabí towards Benecko and has a stop right by Hotel Gendorf according to the current timetable.

It’s an ideal trip for families: the kids get a walk, experience the museum, the town, and a train ride — and parents don’t have to worry about the uphill journey back.

Route difficulty: easy
Time required: full-day trip

Route across three Krkonoše peaks

For more experienced hikers, there is an interesting route across three Krkonoše peaks leading from Benecko to Horní Mísečky along the old Buchar Path.

You need to head towards the Rovinka crossroads and then continue over the peaks of Šeřín (1027 m), Černá skála (1039 m) to Mechovinec (1081 m) past Harrachova skála to Horní Mísečky. At Horní Mísečky, it’s a good idea to take a break for rest or refreshments. The route length in one direction is about 10 km.

You can start with the trail that can be joined in the forest above Apartmány Tři boudy. Once you join the Buchar Path, continue along the red hiking markers towards Rovinka.

If you don’t have enough strength for the journey back from Horní Mísečky, you can return by tourist bus via Jilemnice, but we recommend checking the bus departure times in advance.

Difficulty: moderate
Route length: approximately 10 km

From there, you return by bus to your car in Horní Mísečky.

We recommend Labská bouda for lunch.

Tip: The bus from Horní Mísečky to Zlaté návrší (Vrbatova bouda) only runs in the summer months. You can find the current timetable here.

In-line trail

Get your blood pumping and head out for a ride through the beautiful Krkonoše nature. The in-line trail starts at the Bellevue residence and is approximately 2.5 km long. It’s a great tip for everyone who wants to enjoy outdoor movement — on skates, a scooter, with a stroller, or on balance bikes.

Please keep in mind that the route also serves as a supply and access road, so cars may occasionally appear. Please be careful and considerate.

Flow trail

The newly opened 3km long Flow trail under the Kejnos cable car attracts fans of off-road descents.

With easy to moderate difficulty, it can be handled by adults and more experienced school-age children. You can get to the top by cable car or via the regional road. The Flow trail starts at the top station of the Kejnos cable car.

Singltrek

Enjoy fun for children and adults on the 1.3 km long Singltrek, which is also suitable for beginners. You can access the Singltrek near the P3 parking lot (at the crossroads) between Hotel Kubát and the Bellevue bend.

Cycling route across three Krkonoše peaks to Horní Mísečky

For active cyclists, we would suggest the loop from Benecko via Rovinka and Horní Mísečky, back via Janova hora. This is a beautiful moderately difficult route that isn’t extremely long but has a mountain character, views, forest sections, and several places to stop for something good.

From Benecko, head towards Rovinka. Several routes intersect at the Rovinka crossroads, and there’s usually an option for refreshments. From there, continue along the cycling route towards Třídomí and on to Horní Mísečky. The Benecko–Rovinka–Třídomí–Horní Mísečky route is part of the marked Krkonoše cycling trails.

At Horní Mísečky, it’s good to include a break for lunch or refreshments. From Horní Mísečky, head back towards the Kozí hřbet hill. When you reach Janova cesta, turn off and head towards Janova hora. Along the way, you’ll pass the Hucul Farm, home to one of the most significant herds of Hucul horses in the Czech Republic, and arrive back at the Rovinka crossroads. From there, the final part of the journey to Benecko leads along the in-line trail.

The total route length is 22 km; it is a moderately difficult loop suitable for a full-day trip.

Vrchlabí Aquacentre

When the weather isn’t right for trips or, on the contrary, it’s so hot that the water is calling, head to the Vrchlabí Aquacentre. It’s a great tip for a relaxing half-day for children and adults: you’ll enjoy the pool, water fun, and a steam cabin without having to deal with rain or heat outside.

From Benecko, you’re in Vrchlabí in 15 minutes; we recommend checking the current free capacity of the aquacentre.

Hostinné Swimming Pool

When a really hot day comes and you want to take a pleasant trip to the water, head to the swimming pool in Hostinné. It’s a pleasant place for summer relaxation, refreshment, and chill moments with the kids away from mountain hikes. From Benecko, you’re in Hostinné in 30 minutes, so you can easily head there just for the afternoon and enjoy the water, sun, and summer vibes.

The swimming pool is only open during the summer season, usually from June to August.

Mushroom picking

You can go mushroom picking almost right from the apartments. Just put on some sturdy shoes, take a basket, and head into the forest right behind the house. The surrounding forest invites you for a slow walk, quiet searching, and with a bit of luck, a full basket of mushrooms. Just please, move considerately towards nature and only pick mushrooms that you know for sure.

Hucul Mountain Farm

Just a 25-minute drive from Apartmány Tři boudy is the Hucul Mountain Farm on Janova Hora. One of the most significant herds of Hucul horses in the Czech Republic lives here on vast mountain pastures. Children and adults can try horse riding lessons, head out for a ride through the beautiful Krkonoše countryside, or enjoy the unique atmosphere of the farm with wonderful views of the mountain ridges.

We recommend the excellent Chata Tereza near Janova Hora for lunch.

The farm is a great tip for a full-day walking trip for the whole family. The route via the Rovinka crossroads is about 5 km long. For horse rides, we recommend booking in advance by calling +420 604 245 225.
